Community

“Community is about doing something together that makes belonging matter.  At Sprouts we believe the relationships we develop between families, children and faculty will connect us for a life time. We believe in the importance of service and giving back. We guide and inspire our children through various ways, including fundraising for organizations throughout the school year. We build a sense of community through our parent socials and community events.”

Intergenerational learning

A significant part of our students learning at Sprouts comes from meaningful social interactions among peers, teachers, and members of our local community. In recognition of this we launched our Intergenerational Learning Program in 2017.

We believe that planned, intentional interactions between seniors and preschool-aged children strengthen community engagement, support emotional wellness, and create greater social connection.

Through inclusive art, music, movement and reading activities our IGL Program visits are fun, engaging, meaningful experiences that bring generations together with a goal of having fun and building relationships.

Music Heals

Since 2012, Music Heals has raised awareness and funds to increase access to music therapy for vulnerable Canadians. Music Heals supports a wide range of music therapy services in communities in BC and across Canada. This foundation was started by an alumni Sprouts family and many of our teachers and families have joined in Music Heals events to help raise funds for this inspiring cause.

Great Canadian Shoreline Clean Up

Great Canadian Shoreline Clean Up

The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup became a national conservation initiative in 2002 and cleanups started appearing in every province and territory. The Shoreline Cleanup is now recognized as one of the largest direct action conservation programs in Canada. Sprouts participated for the first time in 2019 and with the help of our families removed 100 pounds of garbage from Kits beach. Since then we have been inspired to host an annual Sprouts community park clean up at our local forests and river banks helping to conserve our forests and support our students in being ambassadors of the environment.
