Wednesday April 22nd– Earth Day

Happy Earth Day Everyone!  It is our day to celebrate our planet Earth and remind us to take care of the earth. Do you know how to reduce, reuse, and recycle? Do you remember to turn the lights and the water off when you are not using them? Do you remember to sort the garbage that you throw away? Then you are helping our planet!

Recycling is an important part of taking care of the Earth. Kids can help sort plastic and cardboard and paper. You can also make it a fun throwing game. Throw the plastic in the blue box and the paper in the yellow bag. (paper airplanes perhaps)

Cloud Writing (from our friends at stayathomeeducator.com and happyhooligans.ca)

This activity could be done while Dad is shaving.

Use shaving cream on a tray and practice writing some letters. You can write some words on a piece of paper and your child can copy the letters with a finger in the shaving cream. They can write the letters of their name, write a letter for the sound that you give them, or write a letter that you ask them to write. Ideas for today- Earth, reduce, reuse, recycle.

Paper cutting

Don’t throw away that scrap paper. Give it to your kids to practice scissor cutting.  Use a tray to collect all the pieces, and get the kids to recycle.

Bowling

Save some plastic bottles and fill with some water for your own bowling game.

It’s time to unplug. It helps the environment by using less power.

Some days it is great to get together as a family and relax.  My family has library time.  This is when everyone gets their books, gets comfortable and reads together.  It is also great to look at books, read, and relax before going to sleep. Enjoy library time!
